Peru : Facts about the South American country

Peru or Republic of Peru is a South American country situated on the bank of the Pacific Ocean.
It's capital is Lima and currency is known as Nuevo Sol. Peru has a coastline of about 2,414km. Most of the citizens of this country are Roman Catholic and Evangelical, very few follows other religions.
Languages mostly used by the natives are Spanish, Quechua and Aymara. Very few communicate in English.








It got its independence from Spain on 28th of July, 1821. The name Peru is derived from a native word "biru" which means "river".
It have a literacy rate of about 93%. 





Peru is famously known as the Land of the Incas. Peru shares the control of world's highest lake called Titicaca with Bolivia. Machu Picchu is of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The Largest Flying Bird on Earth can be found in Peru, The Giant Andean Condor.
Llama is the original habitant of Peru.
The large cities in Peru are Callao and Arequipa.
This country is rich in minerals and is one of the leading producers of silver. The leading agricultural products include sugar, wool, beans, coffee, rice, potato and cotton. They also cultivate alfalfa. Due to its favourable location for the fishing industry, Peru is the world's most important producer of fishmeal and sea food. Besides fish products, the chief export includes petroleum, copper and iron ore.


Peru’s Nazca Lines, a collection of more than 70 giant human and animal geoglyphs, were first noticed from the air in 1927. 
Largest flock of flying birds has been found in Peru.
